Pictures of Yellowstone Views

These are all scanned photos of views and waterfalls in Yellowstone National Park from our trip to western parks in 2002.

This is the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. It's a lot like the Grand Canyon in Arizona except that it's smaller and has some nice waterfalls.

Another view of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Here you can see a waterfall. Most of the waterfalls in Yellowstone really aren't very impressive if you're used to Yosemite, but the flow in the Yellowstone river was heavy enough that even though the falls weren't very tall they were very impressive up close.

Yellowstone Lake. Every time we got near the lake it looked totally different because either a storm was coming or leaving or it was in the middle of a thunderstorm or sunset or moonrise or. . .

This is Crevice Lake. It's small but deep (100 feet). We camped nearby at campsite 1Y4. It was a nice campsite but it's actually the other side of a ridge from the lake. Luckily it's right next to the Yellowstone river so there's good water access.

The Yellowstone Handbook : An Insider's Guide to the Park

This is by Phil Frank (a local cartoonist) and his wife Susan. His books follow a common format, which is in FAQ form. They're extremely useful, funny, and he isn't afraid to say what is and isn't nice about a place. This includes everything to local features to where to get pizza. Yellowstone is a huge park and without some kind of a guide you'll probably stumble across interesting things, but you'll have a much better time with a little more information than the park map they give you at the gate.
