These are all scanned photos of the Grand Canyon from our trip to western parks in 2002.
This is near sunset. There's a tradeoff between dramatic shadows and "Hey,
I can't see anything!".
Closer to noon - hardly any shadows at all..
This is one of the trails on down into the Grand Canyon. Yes, those are switchbacks.
I have a nearly identical photo (except it's in black and white) from a trip
my grandmother took some years back. Hasn't changed.

The Grand Canyon Handbook : An Insider's Guide to the ParkThis is by Phil Frank (a local cartoonist) and his wife Susan. His books follow a common format, which is in FAQ form. They're extremely useful, funny, and he isn't afraid to say what is and isn't nice about a place. This includes everything to local features to where to get pizza. In the case of the Grand Canyon, I went from totally confused to knowing what my options were in terms of where to stay, and what was worth doing and what wasn't worth doing. We decided to stay two full days (so three nights) and never ran out of things to do. |
