Pictures of Arches and Canyonlands

These are all scanned photos of Arches and Canyonlands National Parks from our trip to western parks in 2002.

Picture of Arch
Mesa arch is at Canyonlands, located near Arches and Moab, UT. Here you can see some of the Canyonlands landscape framed by the arch.

Picture of Arch
Delicate arch, with some people kindly providing scale. I have pictures with and without people, but if you haven't seen it in person it's nice to get some idea just how big these features are. Not really knowing what to expect I didn't lug my tripod (it's a hike to get there) so I didn't try for the cliche sunset shot.

Picture of Arch
This is Landscape Arch. It's 306 feet across. You used to be able to get right under it, and then a 70 foot long chunk fell off and that part of the path is closed now.

Picture of Arch
Double-O Arch. I wasn't really sure why they named it that since I hadn't seen a photo before hiking out to see it. When we finally saw it, it was like a little lightbulb went over my head.

Exploring Canyonlands and Arches National Parks

Falcon guides are usually pretty good, and sure enough this got the job done. It has a variety of hikes with nice descriptions and things like little graphs that show you what the elevation gain is really like. It's not critical to have a guide at Arches, but a lot of the arches involve at least a short hike and it's nice to have some idea of what you're getting into before you head out in the desert heat!
